On November 13th, 2025, Raizup Nutrition Care hosted an insightful webinar dedicated to one of the most critical phases in dairy cow management: dry-off. This event brought together the expertise of Dr. Jantijn Swinkels, udder-health consultant, who explored the challenges and opportunities at dry-off, followed by Raizup’s ruminant manager, who introduced SafyDry, an innovative solution designed to support high productive cows during this transition.
Part 1 : Why Dry-Off Matters
Dry-off is a pivotal period for udder health and future lactation performance. As highlighted by Dr Swinkels, genetic progress and improved feeding strategies have significantly increased milk yields over the decades. While this is a success for productivity, it also introduces risks at dry-off, such as high intramammary pressure which increased risk of new intramammary infections (IMI) during the dry period.
The challenge is clear to Dr. Swinkels: most new IMI occur during the dry period. Based on a meta-analysis of the literature, Dr. Swinkels highlighted the importance of reducing milk yield to ≤15 kg/day before dry-off to minimize these risks and improve animal welfare.
Part 2 : Strategies to Reduce Milk Production
The webinar reviewed several approaches, including nutrition management, gradual milking strategies, and combination methods. Today, innovative solutions are also emerging—such as the complementary feed SafyDry.
Part 3 : Introducing SafyDry: Innovation for high productive cows
Raizup presented SafyDry, a new innovative solution design to supports udders of high productive cows at dry-off to ease udder involution.
With its innovative approach, SafyDry, for high productive cows:
- Speeds up milk production decrease at dry-off
- Helps to limit udder engorgement at dry-off
- Contributes to somatic cells reduction at the start of the following lactation
SafyDry is a complementary feed for ruminants and small ruminants supplied in a cartridge compatible with a dispenser gun.
